VTVFCF October 2024 Newsletter
Hello to all Members.
So far 2024 has been a busy year for all of us.
We should firstly acknowledge and pay our respects to our Life Member and one of the founders of the Fund, Peter Taylor. Peter will be sadly missed by all, as a mentor for some of us newcomers, and as a staunch mate to many. Vale Pete and RIP digger, your job is done. Rest well in the green fields beyond.
We started the year with half a dozen members and now we have 40. A New President, Bruce Williams, and a full new committee. We have updated and resurrected our website, and thanks to Broc, we have our Facebook page running again. I just have to keep working out how to use it.
Financially we are reasonably sound though we do have some up and coming projects that we have committed to. An inspection was carried out by the committee on some of our original houses that we built, some quite a few years ago and some were found to be in need of repairs, coats of paint, leaking roof’s in places minor things but still a cost to get done. Food parcels were delivered to the houses visited.
Inspecting a house to assess the family's needs
We have committed to providing food parcels about every six weeks to our needy families. 5Kg of rice, some noodles, fish sauce, cooking oil, etc., and a couple of treats for the children. It is not a lot but it helps.
The motorbike that was donated to us before Covid, and we were going to auction, was taken to the mechanical section of the Orphanage at Long Hai and assessed. Repairs and refurbishing were found to be to costly, so we donated it to the Orphanage workshop for spare parts. At the same time 50kg of rice was delivered to the school.
Members of VTVFCF being shown around by a local family
In conjunction with Robert Taylor from the World Wide Arms museum we have organised to support 60 children, 30 primary and 30 high school, all certified as being underprivileged by the police and the peoples committee. The support will consist of school fees, health and accident insurance, sports uniforms, bicycles for those who live more than two and a half kilometers from the school and a care package of food about every six weeks. Our fundraising has been going on reasonably well with tours and raffles doing most of the heavy lifting. We would like to thank Belly’s, Downunder Bar, Numpty’s, Hello Beautiful and DW’s Kitchen in particular, but also the other bars on Phan Chu Tring in Vung Tau that support us.

Checking on houses that may need repairs and delivering food parcels
Our raffles will probably go back a bit at the end of the football season so if anyone has any ideas for a fundraiser please aproach a member of the committee and let’s hear it
I have been having some trouble with some email addresses. Some of it is mine and some of it is the hieroglyphics I receive from the recieps. Please beear with me.
